AlipayHK is a Hong Kong wallet, separate from mainland Alipay. Before setting it up, check whether your phone number, payment method and intended purchase are supported. Being able to register or link a card does not mean every payment, transfer or cross-border service is available.
How to set up AlipayHK
- Download the official AlipayHK app and choose your language. Select Create Account and follow the mobile-number and SMS verification prompts.
- Set the login and payment credentials requested. Keep verification codes private.
- Open the bank account or credit card section and add a supported payment method. Check its restrictions and fees before using it.
- Complete any identity verification required for the feature you want. Check your account’s displayed limits.
The official account-setup FAQ explains SMS registration and distinguishes login and payment passwords. Its mainland-Alipay login route asks users to supply a Hong Kong mobile number to activate AlipayHK; do not assume a mainland account automatically works as a Hong Kong wallet.
Can you use an overseas credit card?
The AlipayHK card FAQ, updated July 10, 2026, says Visa and Mastercard credit cards can be linked without a general issuing-region restriction, with a Hong Kong issuance restriction for BOCHK cards. It excludes supplementary and debit cards from ordinary credit-card linkage; eligible bank-account linkage through FPS/eDDA is a separate route.
The same FAQ lists a standard monthly credit-card payment fee-waiver allowance of HK$3,000, followed by a 2.5% handling fee, with specified payment-method and card exceptions. Check the actual payment screen and your issuer’s charges; do not apply this rule to transfers or bill payments, which have separate schedules.

How to pay a merchant
Use Pay to display your payment code to a participating merchant, or Scan to scan the merchant’s code. Confirm the merchant, amount and funding method before approving. These two methods are described in AlipayHK’s payment FAQ.
Can you use AlipayHK in mainland China?
Cross-border use depends on account eligibility, verification, merchant acceptance and the selected funding method. AlipayHK’s verification FAQ identifies cross-border payments and remittances as services requiring verification. Check the current in-app requirements before relying on the wallet for a trip.
